RMS February Update: National Guard Warrior Care Summit in DC…and the Blizzard of 2010
Message from Remember My Service President, Sharlene Hawkes

On February 5th, I was asked to make a presentation at the Warrior Care Summit in DC (“Communication and Resiliency”), so I flew in the night before and planned to leave the next day. While the rest of DC prepared to hibernate as one of the biggest blizzards to hit the DC area in decades approached, the National Guard went right ahead with this key meeting to focus on Warrior resiliency. I was impressed by the various approaches that have been developed throughout the Guard to better serve their Guardsmen—an urgency that we have seen throughout all branches of service, in the last couple of years especially. Since my flight was cancelled and I had no choice but to enjoy the Capitol during the Blizzard of 2010 for the next 8 days, I did a lot of walking in this land of very few snowplows and bags of salt. And while everything remained closed for nearly a week, again, the Military plowed through. The Reserve Officers Association went ahead with their winter conference so I had the unexpected pleasure of being with them for 3 days. Thank you!
