I admit, I am a “speed visitor” to museums. Check out the highlights and then move on to something a lot more, well, fun. So why am I incredibly eager about the new National Museum of the US Army that will begin its groundbreaking next summer and be open to the public in 2015? It’s simple. This museum will be experiential like no other. Over the last three years, I have had the privilege of getting to know the Director of the Museum, Jeb Bennett, and his expert team of Steve Bavisotto and Roger Wright (and many others!). Just last week, they walked me through the architectural plans, the layout, and the exciting features that visitors will experience. Imagine entering the World War I exhibit through a trench…sitting in a 360 theater and see what it is like to fly in a Blackhawk (you’ll feel it too!)…simulators…strategic games recreating critical campaigns of war…parades…tattoos…it will all be there, and it will fully honor the service of all Soldiers since 1776. For me the biggest test of all is if I would want to take my family there, and that’s a big YES! Very soon, you will see the new Army Commemorative Coins be released to the public, which will help with the last big fundraising push. May I encourage you to be part of this significant effort to finally get the Army its own national museum that is sure to become a destination landmark for our country. You can visit www.armyhistory.org for more information. Thank you!
