Q: What is a Remember My Service Disc?

A:
Remember My Service (or RMS) is a digital historical record of a military unit. Unlike a traditional historical record typically compiled by units, an RMS disc uses a combination of pictures, music, narration, video, and web links to create an interactive yearbook on a computer disc for each member of a Military Unit. The RMS disc comes packaged inside a hardbound customized notebook for the specific Military Unit.

Q: Is RMS a video yearbook?

A:
No. An RMS disc is an interactive experience that can also include short video segments. An RMS disc can come on a DVD, but it is a DVD-ROM and not a video DVD. An RMS disc comes on a CD or DVD, depending upon the size required, and operates on a personal computer using special viewer software that is included on the disc.

Q: Do you have Remember My Service projects from past wars?

A:
The RMS projects that we are currently working on are designed to document our modern force serving in post-911 conflicts, such as Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. However, we are continually taking on new projects and expanding our scope of coverage to include past wars and unit historical records, and current events such as unit reunions! We hope you will keep us in mind to help you document your unit or organization's experiences. If you like what you see, please refer us to your Public Affairs Officer, historian or events coordinator for documenting your unit's experiences, both past and present!

Q: How can I get an RMS disc for my Military Unit?

A:
Ask your Public Affairs Officer, Unit Historian, or your Commanding Officer about doing an RMS. Many Public Affairs Officers are already in the process of putting together a historical record, unaware that they could use the RMS tool to create a meaningful project that digitally preserves documents, photos, videos, and more. At the same time, they can create a meaningful project that can act as a link to your Unit’s website, alumni site, or even your personal website. An RMS disc is a versatile communication, retention, morale and recruiting tool. RMS can help gain recognition and promote support for the individuals serving within a Military Unit and their families. Please inquire within your unit and refer any interested individuals to this website.

Q: Can I make copies of my RMS Disc and share it with family and friends?

A:
Yes. Once your Unit has completed an RMS disc, your copy is yours to keep and share. We recommend you save a copy onto your computer, and make as many copies as you'd like for family and friends.

Q: How much does an RMS cost, and is the purchase approved through the U.S. Military?

A:
The cost of an RMS varies, depending upon the project option and the number of troops in a unit. RMS has been approved for use by Military Units by the U.S. Military and is already being applied by units in multiple service branches. Click here to view pricing sheet.

Q: What is the difference between an RMS CD and an RMS DVD?

A:
The most obvious difference is size. The DVD can hold more information than the CD, and is also more expensive. Both the DVD and the CD operate using your computer’s disc drive. A drawback to the DVD is that some older computers do not have DVD drives.

Q: What kind of help does RMS provide to units creating a project?

A:
RMS provides training on how to organize a project and assemble it with our easy-to-use software. Phone and email support is also available throughout the process. Units can also choose to just organize their pictures and other content digitally into folders. After units send the content to RMS via FTP or an external hard drive, RMS assembles the complete project.

Q: Where do we get our pictures, video, and other content to make a RMS?

A:
The content you use to make your RMS probably already exists on the cameras and camcorders of members within your unit. Simply collect these pictures and content from members willing to provide it. That’s it. You will be surprised by the amount of documentation that has already been collected by Servicemembers within your unit.

Q: How can my company be a sponsor for a Unit Historical Record?

A:
If your company or organization has been looking for a way to be proactive about showing your support and gratitude for our troops, then an RMS sponsorship is a great start! These men and women in uniform have volunteered to stand in our defense, and with your help, they can document their service with a unit-specific historical record that helps to share their important experiences with family and friends. The RMS CD or DVD-ROM disc consists of hundreds or even thousands of digital pages (depending on the unit), each filled with full-color photos, video, text, narration, scanned documents, audio and weblinks. With your sponsorship, your logo and a message of thanks are included within the RMS project and on the hardbound autograph book. A link to your website (if applicable) plus a video message of support can also be included. This is one of the most long-term and encompassing gifts of recognition and honor you can provide the men and women serving our country, and sends a message of support for generations to come.
