The Mission of Remember My Service
The mission of RMS is to:
To honor and recognize the service of each individual Servicemember with the presentation of a personalized Unit historical and current record of service. This is not a souvenir, or memorabilia, or even a “yearbook”—it is their historical record, their legacy of service.
To educate the families and communities about what their Servicemembers do, through distribution by Unit Commanders of these service records to schools, media outlets, civic leadership, chambers of commerce, etc.
To broaden the scope of the required annual service record to include relevant photos, text, newsletters, press releases, and multimedia content in addition to the required annual historical data (unclassified), in order to make the record engaging, relevant, and meaningful in today’s highly personalized and customized world.
To ensure that each Servicemember receives a record of service in accordance with the recognized importance of such a record as stated in the Army Historical Program: “Educating the soldier on the value and utility of history is vital to the future of the Army.”
To assist Servicemembers as they process their experience within a factual, not emotional, context--which is known to help individuals deal with difficult, even traumatic, circumstances.
